Join our Stair Climb

Climb as many stairs as you can in 21 days!
Cindy loved to exercise and climbing stairs was no exception. Be your best self and join us for our inaugural “Lulu Nurse Stair Climb” event. Need some extra motivation? This event is incredibly special because it commences on what would have been Cindy’s 40th birthday. No matter your age, exercise fitness, time constraints, location, or Covid environment, all you need are stairs and a desire to improve. Every stair counts, whether they are the two stairs to enter your house, the flights you climb instead of an elevator, the stair climber at the gym, or the stairs you run while at the local stadium.   How to participate?

  1. David and I have no stairs anywhere near us, no high rise buildings, no stadium, no house stairs but really wanted to be a part of this amazing cause. So instead- our goal is 20,000 steps a day for the duration of this stair challenge. Today I was close- 19,936 and David had 24,820. Thinking of the Bland/BonDurant Families today. ❤️

    • I did the Hood River stairs 3 times this week. Not as sore anymore:) My total this week is 1050. I know it seems really whimpy compared to so many of you, but I’ve never been a big stair climber because my knees aren’t great, so I’m doing my best and it feels great getting out and thinking about the reasons behind this event and foundation in honor of Cindy!

  2. I have no idea how many I can do but I know I will climb EVERY day!! Thinking of you Amy and your beautiful sis!

  3. This week I started off slow with all the rain but I’m excited to up my game this week! 506 stairs for week 1, thinking of Cindy every step on the way!

  4. Made it to the top of the Hood River stairs! I had read there were 513 stairs but I only counted 350 from downtown to Montello. My total for this week is 942. I’ll try for 1500 next week and I’m resetting my overall goal to 4000.

  5. I managed to get 156 flights in this week (not sure how many stairs that would be). This weekend is a little slow since I’m feeling under the weather but I hope to pick it up!

  6. Week 1 = 1530 stairs
I ended up with a sore calf the second day so I switched to yoga. Aiming for more stairs week 2!

  7. We are seniors living in a high-rise near downtown Seattle. We (Natalie and Jerry) walk the stairs in the building. We walk up and take the elevator back down. This week Natalie has walked a total of 751 stairs and Jerry has walked a total of 920 stairs.

  8. During my first week of stair climbing I made the effort to complete 4,838 stairs. My ultimate goal is to make it to 30k-40k stairs, so I really need to pick up the pace! Thank you Admin for creating this non-profit so that we can support our nurses and benefit our health while we are at it. Cheers!

  9. What a great week! It was super busy for me but I managed to get in over 2,000 extra stairs! I didnt do a good job at tracking all the up-downs from basement to 2nd floor, but I did do MORE stairs and MORE exercise so it is a win. My goal is 10k so I have some work to do.

  10. Week 1 = got in about 1,456 stairs. My goal is to increase my number each week! It really is a great way to get more exercise during the day 🙂

  11. I don’t know about everyone else, but this week was fun and motivating! Once I got in a competition with a friend mid-week, my overall goal increased and I began working much harder on finding time to climb stairs as my exercise this week. Thank God I have been climbing stairs at work for months to be able to push myself now. I previously learned how sore your calves can be if you climb the stairs using the ball of your foot instead of your whole foot, so I’m not making the same mistake now. And so much fun getting the girls out there climbing stairs with us. Hopefully I can still reach my end goal!

  12. 3,016 this week. Slow start, but finished strong with a stair running workout. This is great cross-training for volleyball! I’ll set my goal for 10,000 too, with stretch goal of 12,500. Don’t think I can match your 30,000 Amy! 🙂

  13. I keep forgetting to charge my watch to track this, but I have been thinking about it every day. We don’t have many stairs (only 34 from our apartment to the ground level), but there are hills and I’m skipping the bus and walking the hill to get the kids from school every day. <3

  14. My goal is to climb more stairs each day than the day before. So far, so good! The first week I climbed 2482 stairs.

  15. I have had the goal to get some sort of physical activity in everyday, stairs have been a bit challenging because I live in a suburb with no stairs, but I take the stairs at my house and at work. It was fun to read about others progress.

  16. Since we dont have any stairs anywhere near us we decided to do a step challenge, average 20,000 steps a day. Well we (David and I) fell a little short this week. I averaged 16,509 steps per day and David averaged 18,267. Shooting for 20,000 average next week!!

  17. Happy super bowl Sunday. Thanks Amy for your daily pep talks. We have totaled in our high-rise stair climb thus far, Natalie 1312, Jerry 1738.

  18. 5,879 steps this week, bringing my total to 10,717. Still way behind my goal, but I’m having fun with it! Keep up the good work everyone, cheers!

  19. Much better this week- I hit the goal pf 20,000 steps a day with an average of
20,737 steps per day. David came really close with an average of 19,804 steps per day. Keep up the strong work everyone. Thanks Amy for the daily motivation!!!

  20. I’m so impressed that you all can keep count/remember how many stairs you climbed! I ALWAYS lose track in the middle so rely on my watch which only tells me flights, not stairs. I guess the big thing is I improved over last week–232 flights (30-some/day) this week! Aiming for 40/day this coming week.

  21. OK in the week of Jan 25-31, I climbed 253 floors, and managed 75209 steps. For the week of Feb 1-7, 310 floors, 88800 steps…. must be getting close to the moon!

  22. My total for the 3 weeks is 16,500 – unfortunately being on call and short staffed impeded more. I greatly enjoyed the daily uplifting messages and being part of such a worthy cause. Definitely increased my awareness to exercise more whenever possible and be compassionate on myself when I cannot. Thanks!

  23. 6,824 stairs accomplished! Thank you for this push to keep me healthy and strong! ❤️ Will definitely keep going at it!

  24. Our totals for the week: Natalie – 1839, Jerry – 2512. Not too bad for two seniors using the stairs in the building while staying safe. We are planning on continuing after this week. Thanks for the original motivation.

  25. My 3 week total = 7,223 I’m so glad I was able to participate in the stair challenge, and will choose to make this a daily habit going forward!

  26. I got 368 floors this week! 40+ every day except Saturday–let’s just say I’m lucky I even MADE IT up the stairs to go to bed after all day playing in snow, shoveling snow, chasing a toddler!
    I had to do a little calculating for my final total–I think I took 9,072 stairs. Fitbit counts rising 10ft as a “floor”. Contracting calculators say that should equal about 12-13 steps or stairs. 156 + 232 + 368 = 756 x 12 = 9,072
Whatever my final number, it’s way more than I had been doing and I feel better than ever! Thanks, it’s been fun!

  27. 8538. Didn’t quite hit my 10,000 goal, but it was fun! I’m glad I found a new training regiment to help keep me jumping!

  28. Thanks for the fun challenge we are going to try and keep going. We both came pretty close but in the end David hit 19,981 steps on average per day over the 21 days and I averaged 18,475 steps per day. Good job everyone in pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone.
